Edenhope

Overview

Built on the banks of Lake Wallace and framed by an undulating landscape, Edenhope it is a thriving modern township with a population of around 900. Edenhope features chains of wetlands, lakes and majestic redgums. Keeping in mind that wetlands and lakes are seasonal at this stage due to the continued dry times over the past 10-12 years.

History

It was William Wallace in 1843 who became the first white man to discover Edenhope, and it is he who Lake Wallace was named after.

To make sense of the town’s name, it was the Hope family who settled and and established the Lake Wallace pastoral station in 1845.

It was on the banks of Lake Wallace in the 1860’s that local Aboriginal station workers were trained in the art of batting, bowling and the fundamentals of cricket. They became the first Australian cricketing team in 1868.
