Goroke

Overview

The small township of Goroke is an agricultural centre for around 200 people. Situated on the edge of the Goroke State Forest, this beautiful  untamed area features traditional Australian bush nature joining the Little Desert National Park.

History

Goroke had humble beginnings starting out as merely a convenient stopping and changeover point for the Horsham to Apsley coach service. The designated changeover point was under a large red gum tree and around this tree a township grew.

By 1884 the town’s population began to grow reaching at least 50 that year. By 1887 you could find a flour mill, two stores, a school and a mechanics hall all within the township.
