Minyip

Overview
A small community driven town which welcomed the cast and crew of ‘The Flying Doctors’ with open arms back in the 1980s.
Surrounded by farming land (mainly wheat), this traditional Wimmera country town remains true to its heart and unspoilt by progress.
History
Aboriginal for ‘Ashes’, Minyip had its origins as part of a squatter’s run until the township was established in the early 1870s.
The town flourished as a service centre for this productive grain growing district and after a century of steady growth was ‘rediscovered’ by Crawford Productions in 1984 as the town featured as ‘Coopers Crossing’ in the long running television series ‘The Flying Doctors’.
Production ceased in 1989 but visitors from around the world still visit to enjoy a stroll down memory lane.
